The Composition

One day I sat down at the piano.  I had been preparing for a recital that was coming up soon.  I’d been working on some challenging classical music by Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Chopin.  I had studied with my father since the age of 7.  My father was concert pianist and teacher.  I followed in his footsteps.   His teachers had a great influenced on his playing coming from the teaching line of Franz Lizst and the Russian pianist Misha Kottler.  It’s interesting how the teacher influences the student in not only their technique but also their style.  This was just to give you a little of my background so you know where I’m coming from before I share today music with you.   So I sat down at the piano playing some pieces I had composed and then I struck this one chord.  I played the chord again and then a Russian style melody came into my head.  The fingers started going.  It was just a flood of creativity.  I actually had it pretty well completed in about a 1/2 hr.  Now this has happened to me before.  I didn’t sit down at the piano to compose.  I just find I go to another place when I’m at the piano.  Anyway I played it for my dad.  He wasn’t one to give me great praise.  It was more like well it’s not bad.  His comment on this particular piece was, you probably won’t get too many people to listen to it because it’s classical.  At the time I thought he’s probably right but I performed it and actually put it on You Tube and to my surprise it has the most plays of any of my compositions.    You can have a listen for yourself.  Now this is off you tube so the clarity of the recording isn’t great but you can always listen to it  on Spotify or SoundCloud I’ll give you links below.  Enjoy!  Leave a comment if you like.
